NAS devices are inherrently slow.  Timeslips is not supported in that environment, and specifically for this as a primary cause. Flat-file databases hold open dozens of files simultaneously and will really exacerbate the inherrent weaknesses of your network, and in your case the NAS device.  SQL databases by their very definition cannot be run from a NAS device. With one exception - there are (were?) NAS boxes sold by HP and Toshiba that were actually mini-Windows SBS servers that work perfectly with either of these two database types.
