Blog Post: Have you wondered about Purging Timeslips Data

Doing a purge of data is beneficial to the performance and integrity of Timeslips. I believe purging data should be looked at like database maintenance and should be performed when necessary. When the various tables in Timeslips become very large the program can become slow, prevent some actions from being completed and data corruption can occur. Purging timeslips data is a simple process but requires that the person doing the purge is the only one in Timeslips…exclusive mode must be set. Purging instructions are in the Timeslips knowledge base at https://support.na.sage.com/selfservice/microsites/msbrowse.do?UMBrowseSelection=SG_SAGETIMESLIPS_1 enter article ID 14468. A lot of people believe that if they purge data they will lose it forever, while it is no longer in your current database it is in the backup you make before doing the purge so you haven’t really lost it, it’s just not in your current database. To see the data that was purged you simply need to restore that backup to a new database which is then basically a copy of the current database before it was purged. The new database can be named anything you want it to be and can be stored anywhere you want. To access it you simply switch between your current database and the historical database using File>Open database in timeslips.
