Your Timeslips database holds some of your most important information from your clients, hourly rates, to billable time. For most businesses this is how you make your living. Losing this information can cause hours of lost work & hard earned money. Time and time again we have seen where a customer will lose days or even months’ worth of billable time because they didn’t make a backup. Since computers can have software & hardware failure, get viruses, or your data can become corrupt, you should not risk losing any data because you didn’t have a current backup. Making backups can save you tons of time & headaches. We recommend that you backup your Timeslips data regularly and backup to multiple storage media rather it is a CD-R or flash drive. Timeslips provide a backup and restore functionality that helps you protect your valuable data. Creating backups helps ensure that only a limited amount of data is lost if database corruption or hardware failure occurs. Restoring a backup is usually the only way to recover lost or damaged data. You can create backups manually or schedule them to run automatically. Steps for creating manual backups: Timeslips must be in exclusive mode in order to make a backup. Click File, Backup Click Yes to make a backup Give your backup an unique name (Do not overwrite a previous backup) Choose the location Click Save Steps for creating Scheduled backups: Timeslips must be closed and no other applications such as Mini Timeslips or Time Capture can be accessing the database. Click File, Scheduled Backups… Click New (Here you can schedule your backup for Daily, Weekly or Once) Click Next Depending on if what option you selected in the previous screen you can choose the date and time Click Next Choose the Name & the location of the backup Click Next Click Finish Restoring a backup Click File, Restore (It’s strongly recommended that you back up the current database) Choose your backup file to restore Click OK A few things to remember is always keep a few different backups of your Timeslips database and to back up your data on a regular basis. The frequency of your backups depends on the number of daily changes that you make to your database.
