Just what are temporary files? If you are like me I’ve always wondered what they are; their purpose and if they are needed. Well friends, you’ve come to the right place. After exhaustive digging through numerous data I’ve come to the decision they are both essential and non-essential, temporary files are created to temporarily store information while a new file is being written. What this means is to say, when installing a piece of software a temporary file may be created to contain information about the program while it is being installed and once installed the temporary file is no longer needed. Temporary files can also be created to handle editing tasks within certain programs and some programs just create temporary files and leaves them where they were created. Printer spooling also creates temporary files. Windows applications or programs most times delete the temporary files when the program(s) are closed but when a program closes abnormally such as in a freeze up and you have to use task manager to close the program or a computer crash the temporary files do not get deleted. Now your temporary file folders grow larger including those files and the files that never delete. As these temporary files build up the performance of your computer and your software can be affected causing both to run slowly and may even affect the installation of some programs or interfere with the opening of the program. Timeslips is a time and billing program that can be sensitive to the build up of temporary files that may cause program slowness, freeze ups, address violation errors and not enough memory error messages so to get the best performance from the program and your computer you should delete the temporary files from the windows temporary folder and local user temporary folder by clicking on the start search box for windows 7 and the start run box for windows XP then type C:\windows\temp and click enter and delete all the temp files; for the next location type in the same box %temp% and delete all those temp files. Hopefully this information will help you speed up and have a better relationship with your computer and software programs.
