Is Port 3050 open on the workstation? If you bring the database directly to the workstation, does it open quickly? There are several possibilities but my top guesses would be anti-virus settings or malware or a networking issue. Since it just started I would guess that there was an update to your anti-virus that is causing problems or a windows update that caused some issue. What operating system on the workstations? How many workstations? How much memory on the workstations? Have you rebooted the server and workstations since the problem started?
