We are using Timeslips 2006 and have a multi-user license. We have Timeslips installed on computers C1 (running windows 7 professional 64-bit ) , C2 (running windows vista 32 bit), C3 (running windows 8 home), and C4 (running windows 8 home). The timeslips database is stored on computer C1. For months, we have run this configuration fine (actually years, but I say months because computers C3 and C4 were upgraded to windows 8 only six months ago). This week, while timeslips (and the timeslips database) was open on computer C2, computer C1 was restarted. Immediately after restarting, an error popped up on computer C2, asking if the user wanted to try data verification. Data verification was attempted but it failed and the next error was: address violation error. this error is sometimes serious and the program may need to be exited. often it indicates that some data is corrupt in memory. if the program was reading from a file, data in that file may be damaged. area: system error code: 2 address: exception tsystemexceptionc in module timeslip.exe at 0009306e This error pops up whenever Timeslips tries to open the Main.db database on any of the computers. I tried copying the entire directory where the main.db file existed and the same error occurs when trying to open the copy. I am able to create a new database or open other databases (for example, the \Timeslips\Explore\main.db). I cannot do error correction or data verification through timeslips because I cannot open the database. I have tried everything I could find in the forums. - I deleted the temp files in the %temp% directory; - I deleted the files in \Timeslips\TEMP; - I renamed the Timeslip.cfg file, the LOGIN.DB, the LOCKS.DB, the PDOXUSRS.NET, and there is not PARADOX.anything. When I renamed the Timeslip.cfg file, timeslips would not open at all, so I named it back to its original name. - I tried to uninstall timeslips through the Windows control panel (in order to try a re-install), but got a windows error popup: "Setup failed to launch installation engine: No such interface supported." - I tried to uninstall timeslips through the \Timeslips\LoclInst\Uninstal\Setup.exe (in order to try a re-install) but got the error: "The Timeslips Uninstaller could not locate the Timeslips Installation Log file (Install.log)." (so to summarize, I cannot uninstall timeslips at all, but I did reinstall it over the existing installation; still no change) - I also used the Station Administrator to diagnose the computer and it came up with no errors/issues. - I restarted both computers C1 and C2. Still same error when opening the database. - I uninstalled the BDE and reinstalled using the timeslips CD. Now it seems obvious that this problem was caused by restarting the computer without closing the database but I cannot figure out how to resolve it. I know I can create a new database, restore a backup, and re-enter data but I am curious if there is any other solution. Any ideas? I do have a paradox editor so I could do manual database editing if necessary.
