Forum Post: slip list error

We are unable to get a slip listing from either the "time and expense" graphic or from Slips, Time and Expenses by using the menu bar at the top.  The "automated procedure active" pop-up displays, but we immediately get an error message "there are no available Client records.  Please enter some before using this function" .  The billing assistant gives a similar error.  Similar to entering a new time or expense slip - I can't select a client because the list is empty.  Right-clicking on the field and changing to "all clients", displays the open clients, allows me to complete and save the entry, but trying to display the slip listing after gets me back to the error message.  When I check the client list, there are no "open clients", but the inactive and closed client tabs are populated.  I can display the open clients by right-clicking on an empty field in the "open" tab, and change the default from "my clients" to "all clients", but the slip list request still gives me the error message:  there are no available client records....  I've tried changing the client status from open to inactive and visa versa, and I've tried creating a new "open" client, to see if there is something wrong with the existing clients, but the slip list request still gives me the error message. When I close and reopen timeslips, the open client tab is back to empty, with the same effect as above.  I've checked the forum, and tried 1) restarting the machine (which usually fixes bugs like this), 2) refreshing the display using the setup, preferences, interface options, 3) renamed the timeslips.ini file to timeslipsrem.ini, and 4) checked the settings in the timekeeper setup.  We haven't yet reinstalled the software, because I'm afraid we may overwrite something that we shouldn't... Any ideas?  I'm reluctant to upgrade because we are small shop, it's costly, and I hesitate to buy new software that has a buggy history with us.... We are running Timeslips 2007 on one machine.  We have three licences to use the remote timer function, but it never worked , so we only manually enter data on one machine running Windows XP thanks in advance for any helpful advice.
