Forum Post: RE: Report that Lists Bill and Statement Layouts

Thanks for your response. I have been using print screen and copying the list to Word. I was hoping there would be an easier way. I like your suggestion of creating a User Defined Client Listing, but I do not see Bill Layout listed on the left hand side where you select what to add to the report. I selected "All" and did not see it on the list. I am using Timeslips 2018.

You have to modify the report design and change the fields that are shown on the report in the editor. If you have a support contract with Sage, an analyst can assist; with no support contract, any of the Certified Consultants here would be happy to assist as well.

Forum Post: Single Client Pre-bill - Trouble running from toolbar, ok from Billing Assistant

$

We are using Sage Timeslips 2015. We run single-client pre-bills FREQUENTLY from the Bills toolbar (Bills/Pre-bill Worksheet). However, for one particular client, my boss went to the Bills toolbar, selected Pre-bill Worksheet, selected the client, ran and got an error "No Data Selected" (although there were many billable slips that should have shown up on the pre-bill as verified via Time and Expense Slips). I was able to reenact the problem. However, when I went to Bills/Billing Assistant/Billing Assistant Single Client View, I was able to run the pre-bill for that client successfully from there without changing a thing. I thought, "hmmmm, that's odd". So, just to see what would happen, I went back to the Bills toolbar, selected Pre-bill Worksheet, selected the client (just as I had before) and WAS able to run a pre-bill from there that time. Any ideas what caused this anomaly?

Blog Post: Installing Sage Timeslips Premium / 2017+ locally or on a dedicated server

This post is your one-stop shop for installing Sage Timeslips Premium and 2017+. I'l cover installations both locally, as well as on a Windows dedicated server. At the end of this post, you'll find additional resources that cover installing Sage Timeslips Premium / 2017+ for other environments, converting your Sage Timeslips Premium and 2017+ data, performing a multi-user upgrade, and other important topics, like opening port 3050 and converting your BDE database to Firebird. Perform a local installation of Sage Timeslips Premium and 2017+ These instructions explain how to perform a Local Installation from your Sage Timeslips Server to your network workstation. To install Sage Timeslips on a workstation, you must have already installed Sage Timeslips on the server, and shared server access to your Sage Timeslips workstations. In this example, the shared folder is mapped as T: and Sage Timeslips is installed into T:\Timeslips. Follow these steps to install Sage Timeslips on the workstation: Existing Sage Timeslips workstations can simply open Sage Timeslips as the Local Installation wizard will launch automatically and you will be prompted to update your installation. On new workstation installations, program files are copied from the server to the workstation during the local install process. Click Windows Start , Computer and double-click the network drive In our example, T: ). Double-click the folder where Sage Timeslips is installed on the network, in our example T:\Timeslips\. You may also click the Windows Start button, type '\\Server_name\' without quotes and utilizing the name for your server, and click OK . Locate and open your Timeslips shared folder. Double-click the LoclInst folder. Double-click Setup.exe to start the local Installation. The Sage Timeslips Local Install window will appear. Close all other applications and click Next to continue. At the Installation or Update phase, choose Install . This option will install Sage Timeslips and configure the programs to share your networked Sage Timeslips configuration and data files. At the Installation Type phase, choose the desired installation: Complete - Installs all available features. This is recommended for normal installations. Custom - Allows the user to configure the desired components to be installed. This commonly used when only installing Sage Mini Timeslips or to eliminate specific functions during a workstation install. Install Sage Timeslips Premium/2017+ on a Microsoft Windows dedicated server These steps explain how to install Sage Timeslips Premium/2017+ on a Microsoft Windows dedicated server, such as Windows Server 2008, 2008R2, 2012 or 2012R2. Since Windows Server is primarily intended as a dedicated server platform, we do not recommend running Sage Timeslips on a dedicated server. However, we understand that in some circumstances this may be the preferred method of installation. Please note that using Sage Timeslips on the server will also claim and hold a Sage Timeslips license. Create a Network Share for Sage Timeslips On the Sage Timeslips server, From the Windows Start menu, select Computer . Double-click the drive you want to create the shared volume on. The C: drive is commonly reserved for boot and system files. It is customary to store data files such as Sage Timeslips on a different volume. In our example, we will use the D: drive. Click File , New , Folder . Name the folder "TSSHARE". Right-click the TSSHARE folder, and select Properties , click the Sharing tab, click the Share button. You can choose to share with specific users OR you can choose to just share the Everyone group, depending on how secure you want your network share to be. We recommend speaking with a network administrator for advice on your network setup and implementation. Set up the proper permissions for this shared volume. By default, Windows Server assigns minimal rights to new shared volumes. You must have and grant at least Read/Write permissions to this folder. For Permissions, click Read and Write for the desired users or you can choose Everyone and mark them as Read/Write for a simplistic setup. Network administrators may choose to be more selective with specific users and specific permissions. Below is information on the differences between Read and Write rights. Read is the default permission that is assigned to the Everyone group. Read allows: Viewing file names and subfolder names Viewing data in files Running program files Write/Change is not a default permission for any group. The Change permission allows all Read permissions, plus: Changing file names and subfolder names Changing data in files Click OK on the Permissions window. Click OK on the TSSHARE Properties window. The share should now be visible to other computers on your network. If you have a firewall enabled, it is necessary to make sure that port 3050 is open. The Firebird Database engine that Sage Timeslips uses transmits data to and from network machines via this port. If it is closed Sage Timeslips will not be able to open databases on your server. See the "Learn More" section at the bottom of this post for links to the appropriate knowledgebase articles. To complete this setup, you must be certain of the server's machine name. To determine this name, right click Computer and choose Properties to find the computer name. Alternatively, open a Run box via the Windows Key+R on your keyboard, typing CMD, and typing HOSTNAME, then press Enter . The result will be the machine name. Install Sage Timeslips to the network folder share you created earlier Sage Timeslips should be installed in a shared folder under the Local Volume (C: drive, D: drive, etc.); for example, C:\TSSHARE\Timeslips or C:\APPS\Timeslips . Server Considerations : We do not recommend installing Sage Timeslips under the C:\Program Files\Timeslips on a server due to Windows limitations when accessing shared data under Program Files. You must be physically at the server to perform this install. You cannot install to the server from another network machine. Make sure that your server is on the same network and visible to the local workstations. Sage Timeslips communicates via port 3050, make sure that port 3050 is open in your network firewall on the Application/Database Server only. This is not required on local install machines. You can review instructions on how to open a port by visiting KB article 63862, in the "Learn More" section at the bottom of this post. If you are on a monthly subscription and installing the Premium version, you must make sure you have an active internet connection to validate your account. Finding the serial number, configuration code/activation key and account ID You will need your serial number, configuration code/activation key and account ID to install Sage Timeslips, register Sage Timeslips, and to receive technical support (if necessary). Sage sent this information to you in an email message shortly after your order. Understanding single-user configurations When using Sage Timeslips Premium/2017+, a single-user installation refers to any installation that has one station license. Some single-user installations include: Single-user installation with one computer – If you purchased a single license of Sage Timeslips and you own a single computer, the program files and database will reside on this computer. Single-user installation on a network workstation with the database on a network workstation – If you purchased a single station license of Sage Timeslips and your workstation is connected to a network, you can install Sage Timeslips on your local workstation and maintain your Sage Timeslips database on that same workstation. Single-user installation on a network workstation with the database on a network drive – If you purchased a single station license of Sage Timeslips and your workstation is connected to a network, you will not be able to maintain a database across the network. Your Sage Timeslips Database must reside on your local hard drives on your workstation. Understanding network configurations If you purchased multiple Sage Timeslips Premium/2017+ station licenses, then multiple users (up to the number of station licenses purchased) can access the database simultaneously. To support multiple-user access, you must install Sage Timeslips Premium/2017+ in a network environment. This section describes common network configurations: Peer-to-peer networks – If your firm has workstations networked in a peer-to-peer environment (where workstations can access drives on other workstations), the first workstation on which you install Timeslips is considered the Timeslips server. Network installation – If your firm has network workstations and a network server (which contains shared network drives), you can install your initial Timeslips installation on the network server. In this configuration, your firm’s network server is the Timeslips Server. In network installations, after installing Sage Timeslips Premium on the first computer, you can use the local installer to install Sage Timeslips Premium to each network workstation that will access Timeslips. For additional information about configuring your network workstations, see the above "Perform a local installation of Sage Timeslips Premium and 2017+" section above for these steps. You can install Sage Timeslips in many network environments. Knowledgebase articles with steps for these environments can be found in the "Learn More" section at the bottom of this article. Download the Sage Timeslips Premium/2017+ installation file. If the installation process does not start automatically, start the installation by double-clicking on the Sage Timeslips download file. The download file will extract the necessary installation file and will open a menu of options. Choose Install Sage Timeslips , During the wizard when asked if this is the Application Server or Database Server, choose Complete Server Installation . Choose your network share that you set up previously in the above steps from the Create Timeslips Share steps. Once installation completes then your Application Server is installed. If you are using Sage Timeslips on the server, install on the server first. On any computer that uses Sage Timeslips, browse to this network folder. If you use the server as a workstation, you do not need to follow the instructions for local installation outlined below on the Sage Timeslips Server, you may run and use Sage Timeslips as installed on the server. Perform Local Installs to your Sage Timeslips Workstations On your workstation, perform your local install. This is not necessary on the server itself. Click Start , Run - or Windows Key+R - and type \\server_name and press Enter, where the server name is the name of your server. The network share TSSHARE should be listed as a folder. If you do not get this result, make sure that you have shared TSSHARE properly and that you have the correct name of your Timeslips server and the share you created. Double-click TSSHARE . Open the Timeslips folder, then the LoclInst folder, and double-click on Setup.exe to start the installation. Upon starting the local installation, choose the desired installation type. Choose the location for Sage Timeslips. On 32-bit workstations, this is typically C:\Program Files\Timeslips\ and on 64-bit workstations, typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Timeslips\ . After the installation is complete, start Sage Timeslips. Select Help , About Sage Timeslips . The Installation folder should be \\server_name\Timeslips and the Application folder should be identical to the path specified in step 5 above. Perform this local install on each of your workstations. Additional info Important : We recommend that your network administrator use these instructions as an example of how to set up Sage Timeslips multi-user on a client-server network. Following the recommendations in this document may affect the functionality of Sage Timeslips and your network. The network administrator (or user making these changes) is responsible for any issues that may arise from following these steps. You must be physically at the server to perform this install; you cannot install TO the server from another workstation on the network. These instructions provide an example of installing Sage Timeslips to a new or newly implemented Windows Server. These basic steps can be used on similar operating systems. Best guess is there was a filter selected beyond the name that limited the data.

I knew you guys would say that :) so that was checked prior to sending the question. Also would not explain how did not work one way, so tried from Billing Assistant and worked, ran again same way as 1st time and worked. Changed no options, filters (other than choosing the client), etc. in-between.

Actually there can be different filters between the billing assistant and the bills toolbar. It is also possible that when the boss ran it there was a filter that was not there when you came back and ran it. Beyond this, there is no way to know why it ran / didn't run without seeing it.

Could also have been some "stuck" temp files that got removed. Or a change in the client's billing status from Proof/Revision. Basically, software doesn't leave a lot of "hair fibers and fingerprints" when it doesn't work. So we usually don't have a lot of forensic clues once it starts working again. Reproducible error is really our only shot to test a theory and confirm cause. But sounds like you did a good job troubleshooting it. Congrats on getting it to work again.

The company I work for is in the St Louis area. We are looking for a consultant to build a report that tells the amount of days from invoicing date to payment date by client by invoice. Does anyone know of a consultant in the area or even someone that can do this remotely? Thank you

That is not necessarily as easy as it sounds, as you could have multiple payments on an invoice. I believe my associates have created a report of this type. Please contract rrice@3545consulting.com

Just did some quick testing and I think it might be very doable with a calculated field. I was testing in v2015, but 2018 should still work. I think we could build you something in about 1/2 and hour. My billing rate is $200 so that would run you about $100. Shoot me an email at duhon@duhon.biz if you are interested.

Timeslips will be doing some regression testing tonight for eCenter. Testing will start at 9pm and could last a few hours. The testing shouldn't impact any customers.
