Forum Post: Address violation error on two pcs, no issue on others

I am the IT person for a small law firm and recently two of their PCs began exhibiting this error immediately upon launching the application. They are running Timeslips 2012.   All the computers access the same DB shared on the network so it isn't a database issue.  I've tried a number of suggestions I found on this site such as clearing the %temp% and C:\Windows\temp directories as well as locating and deleting all the FulSes# files.  Once this error comes up I am unable to do anything in the application. None of the items in the menus work and to close the application I have to kill the process in task manager.  I wanted to download the latest service back, but the oldest I could find was 2013 and I need 2012.  I don't have any experience with this application so any assistance would be appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------ Sage Timeslips has encountered an error Address violation error. This error is sometimes serious and the program may need to be exited. Often it indicates that some data is corrupt in memory. If the program was reading from a file, data in that file may be damaged. Area: System Error Error Code: 2 Class: tSystemExceptionC (EAccessViolation) Version: 20.0.1.51 Date: 11/24/2014 Time: 8:32:13 PM Access violation at address 005B91C9 in module 'Timeslip.exe'. Read of address 00000000 ------------------------------------------------------------ Also, One of the two PCs also has this other error that comes up after the Address violation error.  No other computers get this error, not even the other one with the address violation error. ------------------------------------------------------------ Too many record locks on table. Area: Table Error Code: 109 Class: tBDETableExceptionC Table: Features (77) Record: n/a Version: 20.0.1.51 Date: 11/24/2014 Time: 8:42:34 PM Exception tBDETableExceptionC in module Timeslip.exe at 009E622F. Table: Features Record: n/a BDE Code: 9485 ------------------------------------------------------------ Lastly, there is a third PC that doesn't get any error but when viewing the list of companies only the top 5 or so show up.   I'd appreciate any help I can get regarding these issues.  Thanks in advance.

(From the topmost menus) Bills Bill and Statement Layouts Highlight and Open the Layout (From the menus in the resulting window) Layout Phrases Scroll down to NO CHARGE Change it to the right Click OK Save the Layout Test I do it all the time for my clients.  I hate how it looks like the firm is shouting. Hope this helps.   If you think this suggestion was especially helpful, please consider rating it within the five star option, or clicking the green Yes button next to the "Did this answer your question?" option below.  Thanks. First I would uninstall and reinstall BDE. This includes changes to the registry. There's an article on the procedure in the knowledgebase and in many forums. Many of us pro advisors have the service releases but you might want to consider upgrading.  Timeslips v2012 is eligible for discounts on upgrades through December

Do you happen to have the KB number?  I doubt I'd be able to convince them to upgrade, as they likely wouldn't be able to afford it currently.

Using TS (believe 2007) and had an unexpected computer shutdown. I get the message "there are not enough licenses..." so LIcenses in Use shows me (I am a solo user) as being in use; however I cannot Clear my use due to "there are stations currently accessing the database..."

My guess is that you may have paradox lock files still open and that you will need to find them and remove them.  They look like paradox.lck, pdoxusrs.lck, etc. and may be in your program or data folder.  Couldn't hurt to make a copy of your data folder as a backup precaution.

Thanks for the idea; for some strange reason - after waiting about 20 mins - it then permitted me to clear my use via Station Admin - dont know why it just happened but now seems all clear and functional.

Forum Post: Report for billed and unbilled time

We are doing an audit of an attorney. I am looking for a report that will show me each client the attorney billed. The attorney is saved on the client's custom tab under "controller" I need all billed and unbilled slips. I was thinking I would do a slip report, but I need the total billed and unbilled to particular clients, and part of that total is paralegal work so would a slip report only pull in that attorney? or all slips? Any information would help.

You don't want to run a slip report based on the controller, you want to run it based on the timekeeper and just choose the timekeeper. The controller is not tied to specific slips but to all slips for the client for which the controller is assigned. If you only want the time on the clients for which the timekeeper is the controller you can filter by controller and timekeeper. You can set the report to show totals by client and, depending on which slip report you are using you can subtotal by billed / unbilled. I would look at the slip summary report or timekeeper totals by period.

We hold the attorney info on the controller. The timekeeper could be an atty that isnt assigned to the client, so I dont think that would give me what I need. Really, I need a report of clients that have this controller assigned to it. After that, I need a break down of each of those clients billed and unbilled slips. I can have them in two separate reports, but Im having trouble getting the first list. I did a new charges report, and I think that gives me what I need because it also includes 0.00 charge clients, but I cant be sure.

I believe the slip summary report or the slip totals by period could give the right information if properly filtered and subtotaled. On the sort tab you need to look for slip - billed. Depending on the version of Timeslips you are running there are also custom reports that could be designed. If you go to the help menu and click on documentation (it might be different words, this is from memory) there is a PDF of all the reports in Timeslips. Looking through this and reading about some of the reports might help you. You might benefit from working with a certified consultant as it is often easier to do this working with you.

Search for pdox*.* files and paradox.lck files on the computer that has the Timeslips Cfg file and the database as well as on the workstation. Delete any found then try again.

Hello.  When I print prebills, my columns include, but are not limited to, "Rate", "Hours", and "Amount".  However, when I print bills, the "Amount" column is blank.  How do I get the breakdown to print in the "Amount" column on bills?  I just can't figure it out!  Thank you.

Blog Post: The magic of reporting in Timeslips

Reporting in Timeslips is a valuable tool.  At times complex, but by exploiting the sorting capabilities and options for any given report, many times very valuable information can be easily obtained from a standard report. For instance, at year end, often times a firm will want to know what clients paid them the most for that year, or even who paid what in interest, dollars received against reimbursed expenses, and revenue received and attributed to fees. The Payment Register report can be manipulated to give  all of that information in one report.  Note that this report is a customized version of the A/R Transaction Listing report as is the Credit Register, Payment Distribution and Write Off Register reports.  Versatility in action! Try it for yourself like so: 1) Open the Payment Register report, which is located under Reports , A/R Transactions .  Note at the top it says Report Entry: A/R Transaction Listing .  Aha!   Now we know the base report this one was derived from.  2) On the Selection Filters , select the already applied A/R Transaction Type filter and note that 'Payment' is selected. Add the 'Reverse Payment' and 'Refund' types so that we can offset any bad checks or monies returned to the client. 3) Select the A/R Transaction Date filter with the start and end dates you want.  Maybe 1/1/2014 through 12/31/2014? 4) Optionally, if you want a subset of clients on the report, choose the appropriate custom filter or choose a Client Selection and either include or exclude the clients from that list.  If you want ALL data, do not add the filter. 5) Switch to the Sort and Subtotal tab now and click the symbol between the columns to remove all of the current sort options. 6) Currently the Sort Groups drop down shows Accounts Receivable .  Click on it and switch to Client .  Now add the Client Nickname1 , Nickname 2 or Full Name as desired. After doing so make certain you have the Subtotal column set to YES . 7) Under Options in the lower left hand corner, click the ' Only show subtotals and grand totals ' to subtotal the clients payments instead of showing each payment. 8) Change Report Style to ' Detailed Format ' and set Show Payment Distribution to ' YES '. Print the report to your display and you will see the clients listed alphabetically, with their total payments for the period along with how the payments were applied to Fees, Costs (expenses) and Interest (if applicable). As you could probably see, there were other options available such as showing Tax Information under the Show Payment Distribution selection if you need that data. Timeslips doesn't do everything, as you've probably been amazed to find out, but with the help of other tools we can take this same data and create more reports.  Print that same report to Microsoft Excel (instead of to Display or Printer), and you can sort or remove the columns to provide even further customization of the data presented. Hopefully this will provide you with some ideas on how to use the reports that exist, to give more information for your firm's use of Timeslips. Above all, play , experiment, check out those powerful Options!  You can't hurt anything in the reports.  Make them work for YOU. If you need further guidance, please contact Sage Timeslips Customer Support (must have a valid support plan) or a member of our Sage Certified Consultants Network (fee based independent consultants) for more information on how to get data out, after you have put it in. Thanks for your time, and above all -- thanks for choosing Sage!
