When I want to view the past GL Transfers, it always defaults to the oldest. It is very unlikely that I want to review transfers from 3 years ago. It should either default or stick to newest on top.

If the payment has not been "posted", ie it has not been included on a bill that was approved - it doesn't have a red envelope next to it, then you can delete it. If you are linking to QuickBooks the answer may be different if it was posted to QuickBooks.

Our company recently upgraded to Timeslips 2019. This version is logging each user out of the database after about 20-30 minutes. Our projects typically run 1-6 hours, so this is highly annoying. On top of the annoyance, when the connection to the database is severed, the Timeslips window remains active and timers functioning. A use has no way to know if they have been logged out until they try turning the time off... at which time they get an error message. Each time this happens, I find a small popup window behind the larger active one that asks whether the user wants to reconnect. However, if they have already attempted to use the main window then the system just errors out and the only way to close either window is by use of Windows Task Manager. Is there any way to disable this annoying auto-log-out feature? Our old version did not do this and everyone is getting highly annoyed. Any assistance is appreciated.

In station administrator there is a time out setting. You can change it to no time out or to a time out it starts at midnight and ends at 5 AM, or something similar to that. That should help with the issue

That's the other thing... Station Administrator exe file cannot be found. I haven't been able to locate it since the upgrade. It's not on the server or the individual workstations. Each user has an icon for it, but we get an error message that the file associated with it has been moved or deleted and would we like to remove the icon. Did the file name change in the new version?

It’s called Tsadmin.exe in new versions. Try right click - run as administrator. You can also try to load it from within Timeslips by clicking on special.

In addition to Caren's comment, I have noted times when users needed to close and re-open Timeslips and/or reboot workstation for the database timeout settig to change properlyn in the later versions.

Forum Post: Emailing invoices with zero balance

Hello, We are using Timeslips 2015 and have recently started using the email feature for sending bills when approved. Since we began doing this, we have had several calls from clients who either aren't looking at the whole bill to see the payment is shown and balance is zero, or who have specifically asked us not to send a bill when the balance is zero. We know that you can un-select the email for each one individually after approving the bills, however this is very tedious when running a batch of 100+ invoices. Is there an option or setting to prevent invoices with a zero balance from being emailed? Thank you for any help.

You should be able to control that via the Option when Generating Bills to not include bills with a zero balance. Nothing printed, nothing emailed.

Timeslips 2018 Perpetual May 2018 Service Release has just released. This Service Release is the result of customer feedback and continued quality assurance testing. Listed below are enhancements, new features, & fixes that are in this Service Release. New Enhancements & Features Type Search delay preference When you are entering a nickname on a slip or on a transaction, you can enter the beginning characters in the nickname and Timeslips will move to the matching names. For longer nicknames, if you pause while entering the characters, Timeslips can reset the search and you may not stop on the name you expect. On the Navigation Rules page of Preferences (select Setup; Preferences ), you can now use the “Reset type search criteria when there is no activity for” preference to delay that reset. Resized reports on high DPI screens Details: When using high DPI screens (like laptops), Windows would recommend displaying at 150%. In Timeslips, this could make reports, bills, or reprint bill images that were displayed on screen to cut off parts of the report. Displaying reports and bills in these scenarios should fit the information better. Fixes Creating a database from an existing database did not set up record connections properly When creating a new database based on the current database (select File; New; Database Based on Current ), Timeslips did not set up record connection (select File; Connected Databases ) properly, so you could not exchange data from the new database to the original database. In Mini Timeslips, you could not sort the Slip List by one of the names on the slip Mini Timeslips is a smaller application of Timeslips that offers a much more limited set of features. When viewing the Time and Expense Slip List (select Slips; Time and Expense Slips), you can sort the slip list by a specific field by clicking on a column heading. Within Mini Timeslips, you could not sort the slip list by timekeeper, client, or activity. Replacement slips settings can get improperly reset You can use replacement slips (select Slips; Replacement Slips ) to summarize charges from similar slips. If you use the same replacement rules for many clients, you can set replacement rules up for template clients and use the ‘Also uses template for replacement slips’ option for each other client. In some instances, opening Billing Assistant for a client would blank out this option for that client. Precision settings may show incorrect totals on the Slip List On the Charges page of Client Information (select Names; Client Info ), you can set the ‘Time spent calculation method’ to determine how minutes convert to fractions of hours. The Time and Expense Slip List (select Slips; Time and Expense Slips ) totals should ignore this setting. Placing bills with funds activity on Proof Stage could take a long time to complete If your database has a lot of funds transactions (1000+), when you place a bill with funds activity on Proof Stage, it may take a long time for that process to complete; in some cases the process may appear frozen. Approving a bill with fee allocation disabled could cause an AV error You can use Features Enabled (select Setup; Features Enabled ) to hide features that you do not use. If you had disabled Fee allocation and you tried to approve a bill with a contingency flat fee, an AV error could appear. Undoing split bills may inflate hours on the original slips When you split bills (select Bills; Split Billing Rules ), Timeslips splits charges from one client and assigns some of the charges to other clients. If you undo approval for a split bill (select Bills; Undo Approved Bills ) that had multiple slips, the original slips could result in inflated hours. Holding slips on flat fee bills could prevent taxes from being charged Tax rules (select Setup; Taxes ) determine how taxes are charged in Timeslips. If the ‘Tax applies to charges of flat fee bill arrangements’ option is marked and a client using that rule has a flat fee set up, but you are holding all slips for that client, Timeslips would incorrectly not charge taxes for that client. Summarizing slips on bills can show Hours values incorrectly When summarizing slips (select Bills; Bill and Statement Layouts ) on bills that include a billing arrangement, Timeslips may hide the Amount column heading on the bill. The bill also shows hours for both billable and override slips; in this case, only override slips should be shown. Spell Check process can underline description text You can check spelling (select Special; Check Spelling and Grammar ) manually or as part of generating reports and bills. If you’ve underlined parts of slip description, the spell-checking process could underline all text in the slip description.

your message/scenario doesnt sound like the typical TSAdmin DB Timeout message. if you had a DB time out set for 30 min, then everyone would be logged out with a pop up that says "Sage Timeslips DB Closed, Your Db has been closed due to inactivity" This action closed all dialogs in Timeslips leaving only that pop up. if someone has a MODAL window open such as a slip entry or data entry window in EDIT MODE then their system will not close until that dialog is handled or cancelled. IF they had a slip open with a timer running and the slip was Saved with the timer running then the slip entry would close. if the slip timer was running and slip was not saved still in edit mode then the system would prompt to close and save the slip and perform a function based on the users preference settings and the general DB settings. each user has their prefs for how to handle saving data entry windows so check their setup>preferences>interface>navigation rules>saving rules the DB has a setting to over ride the user preference settings under setup>general>firm>other>close DB rules if you are not getting that initial Db closed message then its possible you may have some other system in place on the workstations or servers that is disconnecting the DB engine connection or network drive connection between servers and workstations like a sleep feature that wakes up when it detects network activity again so check your server network connection settings or workstation hibernation/power saving settings.

Forum Post: Finalizing issue

We upgraded my XP system to a Win 10 and updated our TS 2008 to 2018. We have noticed some bills with payments paid are not finalizing properly and so the next month on the invoice it leaves off "previous balance" wording which makes reading invoice confusing for client. Found if I delete payment and redo, it put the words "previous balance" back on. Any idea why not finalizing properly? It is random with Jan. - April payment dates. Never had this issue when had the old system/product. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm running TS 2017. I keep Timeslips Today open. At the end of a day, I can save the slip I've been working on. No problem. But, manyof my panels in TS Today will be blank or will show No Data Selected. When I try to close all of TS or even just TS today, nothing happens - from menu or from the X. Task manager shows it is using CPU resources. I can wait hours and nothing changes. I can actually use all menus and run reports, etc. Just cannot close the program. I have to force close the program. Any guesses?

You could rule out the interference from the Timeslips Today by turning that off and seeing if it helps.

The problem does not occur every day. Still, I tried your suggestion and everything closed ok. When the problem does occur, I am unable to close TS Today and unable to close the whole of TS. I'll keep trying, see if there is a pattern.

New twist: I had TS open, with TS Today open. Saved a slip and went to minimize TS. Could not minimize the window. Closed TS Today ok. Still could not minimize TS. Was able to close TS. After restarting TS all is fine - at least for now. 2017 build is 25.5.12.389

Forum Post: Client Report on Amount Billed

I have been asked to run a report out of Timeslips showing the total amount of fees & costs billed to a client(s) from the beginning of the case to the end. Some of the clients may be inactive or closed. I may also be asked to break the report down by month or year or both. The end result is to find out how much has been billed to a client in a particular type case, because they are thinking of changing to billing by flat fees instead of hourly and need an idea from past cases as to how much to bill. Any suggestions you have will be much appreciated. Thanks.

You will want to look at the History reports. I would try one client to start with and see if the data is what you are expecting. There are lots of Options within the reports, so check those out. You are looking for the ITD (inception to date) numbers. Nancy Duhon, Esq. Thanks, I'll give that a try. One thing I don't like about Timeslips is that there are so many reports and then options within reports that it takes so much time just to try to find or get what you need.
